K-State’s visit to the Valley of the Sun was bittersweet. The trip represented K-State’s first appearance in a Bowl Championship Series (BCS) game following a thrilling Big XII Championship victory over previously undefeated Oklahoma. A victory would have brought a probable top five place in the polls. But alas off field distractions were pivotal in K-State’s loss to the reigning National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes 35-28 on a beautiful Friday evening in Tempe, Arizona.

The game was preceded by what was quoted as “the largest Collegiate pep rally ever” as over 14,000 enthusiastic fans sang with the band and listened to Pat Roberts, Governor Kathleen Sebelius, Amy Button Renz, President Jon Wefald Coach Bill Snyder, Josh Buhl and Nick Leckey.
